About (Review Policy)

Just A Guy Who Likes to Read

I run this blog to maintain an account of the many books I've read and, to hopefully, inspire my fellow readers to discover some new books that they otherwise wouldn't have picked up off the shelf (or clicked 'buy now').

My tastes are eclectic, as such you'll find a mixture of crime, noir (the preferred genre of this reader), horror, fantasy, historical fiction, and much more.

You can find me discussing books here:

Review Policy

Most of the books reviewed on my blog are purchased by me or are loaned from the very good South Australian library catalogue.

I accept books for review from publishers and authors, but please note the following:
  1. This blog is maintained exclusively by me and has no affiliation to any publishers or individuals involved in the industry.
  2. This blog is a hobby - I don't consider myself a 'professional reviewer', any mistakes or misinterpretations are mine alone.
  3. I am based in Australia, print copies for review will need to be posted to South Australia.
  4. I do not provide advance drafts of my review to publishers or authors.
  5. ARC's provided to me will not be sold - I hoard my books, rest assured it'll be safely stowed away in my personal library or kindle for personal reading only.
  6. If I accept a book to review, there may be instances where the review posted wont be entirely positive - so please be aware of this. I value each authors hard work and will generally post a positive spin on a review but there will be the odd one here and there that just doesn't connect with me.
  7. If I accept a book to review I will endeavor to post a review as soon as I can, but sometimes there will be a delay. Again, this is just a hobby of mine (a rather obsessive and all consuming hobby nevertheless).
  8. Lastly, if you're an Australian published author (or soon-to-be-published-author), feel free to send me your work to review - I love to spread the word of our local talent.
  9. Provide me with author links to your site, publisher, book (where to buy) when requesting a review - I'll add the links at the end of the review.

  2. Hi Josh,
I am making contact to see if you would be interested in receiving a review copy of our upcoming Aussie crime-noir novella Ronnie and Rita, by acclaimed Melbourne author Deborah Sheldon.
If so, please let me know and I will happily send you a copy.
It is only being released in ebook at the present time, and both ePub and Kindle versions are available.
I can be contacted on geoff@cohesionpress.com

    Synopsis:
Ronnie and Rita by Deborah Sheldon.

Ronnie Spooner is middle-aged and single. He’s no-one; a loner who has mowed lawns for a living ever since he was a boy.
When he meets Rita, they fall in love, and want nothing more than a family of their own.
Too bad it isn’t possible. Or is it?
What Rita asks him to do is wrong. Terribly wrong. But compared to the emptiness of Ronnie’s life so far, even wrong seems better than nothing.
Acclaimed author Deborah Sheldon takes you on a twisted love story that detours into even darker territory.
The things we do for love…

“Sheldon perfectly portrays the resignation to mediocrity that permeates many of the working/middle class neighbourhoods … and the desperate things they’ll sometimes do to break away.”
~ Addam Duke, Crime Factory Magazine

    ” … a masterpiece of psychological suspense.”
~ Cameron Trost – vice-president, Australian Horror Writers Association

This book is dark and dirty, bleak and without hope.
Everything a noir story should be…

In Howls From Hell, sixteen emerging horror writers pave the way for the future of the genre. Fans of dark and macabre fiction will savor this exhibition of all-original tales born from one of the fastest-growing horror communities in the world: HOWL Society.

With a foreword by GRADY HENDRIX, this anthology unveils the horror writers of tomorrow with spine-tingling stories from P.L. McMILLAN, SHANE HAWK, J.W. DONLEY, LINDSEY RAGSDALE, AMANDA NEVADA DEMEL, and others.

Thanks very much for your time. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Cheers,
    Solomon
